OCR: AM/FM AM/FM ISSUE 2 EDITORIAL As I read a "readers survey" in one of the major English Amiga magazines the other day, I was very disappointed to see that music, music products and musicians was in fact the least popular material in the magazine. Some 70% of the ones who had answered the survey wanted less music material and more games reviews and graphics material. This, to say the least, wasn't very good news for a musician - I'd already been thinking for a long time that these magazines contain FAR too much graphics and almost no music material at all! I know for a fact that there are a lot* of Amiga owners out there who want more music material. Maybe the musicians have already stopped reading these magazines because of the lack of music material, and hence the survey never reached them? Maybe they're not the kind of people who answer surveys as easily as the average games players? I don't know. But what I do know is that now they can print 350 pages about video digitizing and alien invaders if they want to, because the musicians have got their very own magazine! A magazine with ONLY music articles and material? With all the latest news and reviews, with lots of great Amiga and MIDI music on the disk, and with the latest and best in PD sound - and music-utilities? Too good to be true, you say? Nope. It's AM/FM - Amiga Musicians Freeware Magazine. If you happened to miss out on issue #1, and this is the first one you're reading, #1 is still available, so contact us if you are interested. For those of you who saw issue #1, you will notice a few changes from then to now. First of all, the whole appearance of the magazine is different. Unfortunately, the the menu system we used for issue #1 didn't work properly on Amiga 3000's, so we got our programmer Teijo Kinnunen to put together a custom-made magazine system for us. Not only does it suit our needs better, it also looks better, it's easier to use, and it's more reliable, so lets all give Teijo a big hand for his excellent work! The second thing you will notice is that there's more text, more articles, reviews and news this time. Because diskspace is limited, we had to cut down on something else though, and we chose to use smaller Amiga-only songs for this issue. The quality is still there though, if not even better! Take for instance this issue's default background tune, "Organic Dreams" - excellent composition and sound quality from Anders Hamre and Kim Jensen. Collecting material for the magazine was much easier this time, as we had already released an issue, people knew what they were dealing with, and our staff has increased to about twice as many as we were for issue #1. There's still room for more, though! I would like to take this opportunity to say thanks to everyone who worked with us and/or submitted material for this issue. It's been a pleasure working with you, and I hope we will get many issues of AM/FM to enjoy ourselves over in the future. Lastly, I'd like to say a say a few words about the marketing and financial situation of this magazine. AM/FM is not Public Domain, but it's freely copyable. That means you can copy it to your friends as much as you want, but you can't take take any money for it, not even payment for the disk or postage. That will be regarded as "sale" of the magazine, and in order to sell this disk, you have to have an ORIGINAL AM/FM disk label on the disk. These labels are available from AM/FM for úl each. AM/FM for ú1 each. Any PD company wanting to sell the magazine should order order original labels from us first, then they can sell as many disks as they have labels for. The same goes for the AM/FM Sample Disks, of which one is released together with each issue of the magazine. If YOU have bought this disk from someone, and the label on the disk is NOT an original AM/FM label, then please contact us immediately with the name and address from who you bought it. The original AM/FM label has a pink/grey background, a red circle with various music symbols, and over this is written in black: AM/FM Amiga Musicians Freeware Magazine Issue # Sample Disk # As for distribution through BBS's and file servers, you are allowed to offer AM/FM from FREE BBS systems, where users do not have to pay anything to download, but you are not allowed to have AM/FM on systems where users must pay to download. No one on the AM/FM staff are into this for financial gain, we are doing it of pure interest, and the úl we ask for each original label is only enough to cover our expenses to the magazine, like disks, postage, labels etc. All we really ask is not to lose any money on it but keep the balance at 0. In order to to do this, we need to sell some issues/labels. If we should ever get above 0 and actually have a profit, this will be divided between the contributors as a token of our appreciation, with the effort of each contributor taken into consideration. If something wonderful should happen, and we'd suddenly find cons ourselves sitting on a big fat profit, we will give it to a charity like Greenpeace or Amnesty Int. If you are running a PD company or thinking of starting up one, we'd be happy to have you distributing AM/FM, so please get in touch for information on how to buy the AM/FM disk labels. Meanwhile, enjoy the Amiga Musicians Freeware Magazine issue #2, and we'll see you in issue #3. Take care! Bjºrn A. Lynne Editor AM/FM
